.Isn't this the best guest 'book' you have ever seen?

.I have actually started to develop a rather unhealthy obsession with this chalk board since discovering it on Once Wed and I am now frantically thinking of ways to incorporate it into our already bursting file of guestbook ideas.

.topping things off

.Goose Grease cake toppers are my absolute favourites! I can't wait to order some for Dr D. and I. I especially love the way one can custom order them with instructions about skin colour, hair colour and clothes. Just like this couple did - even his tie matches his cake topper.

.These customised cake toppers are especially perfect for my boy and I as with him being a white, red headed Celt and me a black, West African we can have cake toppers which look just like us. Eg. a bit like the 'groom' above and the 'bride' below. How cute will that be?!

.Ok, I know it is hyper-trendy, I know it i becoming a hipster wedding cliche, I know it is ever so slightly pointless and soooo 2009 but I don't care: I love fake moustaches in wedding photos!

.So, I am planning to buy these wonderful fake moustaches and (to mix things up a bit) fake lips too from Etsy seller Whisker Works. I can't wait to use them with Dr D. and our family and friends during the wedding reception. I am sure it is going to be a huge hit in our photobooth too.

.Of course, if the budget gets too tight as we get closer and closer to the day I will take the DIY route. There are some great instructions here, here and here.

.As a non-white wedding dress bride myself I am always excited to see other women who have opted to just be themselves on their wedding day rather than be a slave to tradition. This bride Ferra, who got married on a beach in Mexico has what is probably my favourite non-weddingy-wedding dress ever! Could there really be anything better than walking down the aisle in this stunning Gucci number? It is lush!

.hayden & hair

.Today is a special day. Today is the day that, after months of browsing online, I finally bought my first ever item from Etsy! I had been lusting over 'Hayden' from Etsy vendor LoBoheme for weeks. It is a 1960s brooch which has been converted into a hair comb.

.I love that it is pretty but not too obviously 'bridal' i.e. no flowers or butterflies in sight. I also love the fact that the slightly unusual shape is exactly the same shape as the perspex embellishments on my wedding dress.

.Why stop with just one Etsy purchase? I also bought one yard (90cm) of silver birdcage veil fabric from YJPaw which I plan to use to make a birdcage veil to rival the brilliance of Drew Barrymore's look at the Grey Gardens premiere (regular readers of this blog may have noticed that I am rather obsessed with that outfit).
Silvery/grey birdcage veils are a real challenge to find so I thought making one would be my best bet, especially seen as I am still not 100% sure that it will suit me (I have talked about this topic before too). The hope is that by attaching the 'Hayden' comb to the veil and making it detachable, I will be able to take the veil off after the ceremony and keep the comb in my hair for the rest of the wedding day.

.In regards to hair styles I am hoping to have something like this:

.But also ADORE this 1940s hollywood sex siren look. Decisions, decisions!
*apologies for the lack of image sourcing in this post - I saved all of the hairstyle images long before I started .modern vintage bride. If your image is above and you would like me to credit you please get in touch.

.I skipped all the way home from work yesterday smiling from ear to ear. Why? Firstly our amazingly talented (and super lovely) wedding photographer Marianne Taylor had written a blog post about all of her clients who are also bloggers and can you believe she included little old me? Not only that, but she said some incredibly kind things about my style! I am soooo flattered.

.As if that isn't wonderful enough, the UK wedding blogger queen herself Kat of Rock 'n' Roll Bride wrote under the post in the comments box "omg you have the coolest clients! i cant believe your (sic) photographing modern vintage bride and cherry blossom girls weddings! eeek". Can you believe that? Rock 'n' Roll Bride knows who I am! She knows my blog! I am so utterly flattered and amazed and blissfully happy!
